Blergh

Reasons I don't like surgery:
  • Everyone is taller than me and I can't see over their shoulders.

  • Steps don't help.

  • Surgery runs all day.

  • You almost always have to skip lunch.

  • You stand centimetres from a hot light. Wearing what amounts to winter pyjamas and a dressing gown. And there's a mask on your face so that all the air you breathe is hot and stuffy.

  • Little girls like me are especially prone to pre-syncopal episodes.

  • Such episodes are more likely on an empty stomach.

  • They make you feel like vomiting.

  • Conscientious but inexperienced surgical trainees take an hour longer than an experienced surgeon.

  • Fighting nausea and muscle fatigue for a whole extra hour sucks.

And to top it all off, the patient probably still has cancer. Poor young thing.

So, here is me, as a Southpark character, and obviously on a medical rotation at the time because I'm smiling:

Nice... :-) I am all very "into" the fainting thing. I haven't been in the OR yet, but I bet that I will "shine" in there as well...!!!

Hullo!

Got here through The Shrink's blog (I would link him in a flashy hyperlink, but those things don't work with me.)

I loved the entry! Some of them are only too true, but I think you forgot to mention arsey scrub nurses who give you evil glares over just about everything (have you had those too? Or is it just me they seem to hate?)

Although I have to say... I haven't ever fainted in surgery... yet.

:)

I hate surgery because people always ask me to move over when they're actually standing on my feet...

Wow! I'm sorry everyone, apparantly Blogger doesn't alert me to comments posted on this blog! Some of you have contacted me all ready; nevertheless I'm sorry for my rudeness.

Ms-Ellisa: all the best! I've managed to avoid it myself so far, but only by the skin of my teeth.

Cal: hello! I pop in to your blog from time to time, though I don't think I've ever commented. Here I've been blessed with the loveliest, reasonablest, intelligentest scrub nurses the world has to offer. They really are wonderful, they're patient with we ignorant medical students and I've never once been treated as if I was a problem. I suspect that in your case, it's them: not you ;).

K: hello! What are you doing here? Do you have big feet?

Bongi: WOW! hello! I've read all of your blog, it's wonderful to see you here! You're perfectly right, surgery is cool. It's just, most definately, Not For Me. Please tell us about the faint: I'll look forward to it.

Lapa: hello, welcome! Cream and two: very classy! I'd read your blog, but unfortunately the only other language I'm blessed with understanding is German.

Jeffery: hello and welcome to you too! I never mind a tag. As it happens, I have done this one before on the private blog, but I'll post my responses here too. Thanks for the link!

You will get used to it! I didn't much like attending theatre as a medical student and now I love it. (And that trainee will get quicker with time!)

Nice. I understand that, Being a doctor is not as easy as it sounds. It requires a lot of sacrifice to make in life.
